Plein Air at Nanaimo Estuary 2017

My son Kyle and I, are working on a series of short videos for my social media stuff. We found ourselves wandering into the Nanaimo River Estuary. I’d never been down this way before and was impressed by its rugged beauty. It is a hang out for arrant eagles and ravens as they constantly harassed us with noise and maneuvers during the painting session. Attached is some photos and a video of the rainy low ceiling cloudy afternoon… Please follow and like us:Read more

Edith Cavell, Jasper National Park, August

‘Jasper is no ordinary place. Everything is bigger than life including my gallery owner, Wendy Wacko. I had the pleasure of painting with her one beautiful Jasper afternoon.  She just returned from a four day kayak trip in storm force wind and rain navigating into the back recesses of Maligne Lake. Most people would have passed on the invite to go plein air painting up in Edith Cavell, but not Wendy.  We hiked up a formidable moraine spine, ladened with our packs full of easels and paint,Read more

Many of our artists have made the journey into the Great Bear Rainforest to experience the wilderness and beauty of the Earth’s largest intact temperate rainforest. Growing up in the lower mainland the mid-coast of British Columbia was thought of as company mill towns and commercial fishing depots. It was not a place where anyone would holiday. En Plein Air, Field Studies

In the tradition of ‘en plein air’ painting Lynch’s work begins with sketches and oil studies done outdoors on location. He shares the landscape. Brent attempts to capture the direct experience with liberal paint application, dramatic brushstrokes and powerful compositions. “I never signed up to be a studio all day. Field painting has always been attractive for image making – nothing like the real thing.”   Please follow and like us:Read more

Figure and Life Study

“The human figure is one of the most enduring themes in the visual arts. As human beings we share the experience of travelling through this world in a space-suit we call our body. There is an experience in the study of the human form that takes us on a very unexpected journey.” From the beginning of his art education Brent gravitated to life drawing class. Direct study of life around him became the means to investigate and developed his craft as a picture maker.Read more
