Assiniboine Painting Trip 2023

If there’s a place in the Rockies that has eluded me over the years, it is Mt. Assiniboine. It was my luck that Stephanie Gauvin, a true mountaineer and painter, organized the trip and invited me along with two other painters. Stephanie Gauvin, Melanie MacVoy, Charlie Easton and myself were off to Oz and you couldn’t be with better company. We flew in by helicopter on a clear afternoon. The scenery from the air was spectacular! The wide and vast valley where the camp, cabins and lodge were located was adorned with flaming orange/golden larch trees with a powerful amphitheatre of mountain ranges and finally, anchored by the mighty North American Matterhorn, ‘Mt. Assiniboine’.  Five days we hiked and painted followed by memorable extra-curricular activity to round out the day.  The weather was all over the place which was exactly what I like. I love the mountains when it’s stormy. We caught the first snowfall of the season, beautiful blue skies and everything else in between. Below are some shots and vids of the trip.
