‘Light Rhythms’ Solo Show
‘Light Rhythms’ Solo Exhibition, Madrona Gallery, Victoria. May 3rd - 17th 2025
Like music, light moves in waves and in rhythm. It renders the landscape, ever changing. Light makes things visible. It paints the scene with colour, intensity and movement. When I’m painting on location, the first question I ask myself is ‘what’s the light doing?’ It drives the story and in turn, my mark making decisions. Light always impresses me with surprise.
Light is a sublime artist. It is beyond our understanding how it renders and defines, defuses and obscures the physical shroud. The relationship with picture making and light is intimate and indelible. Trying to capture light with paint is a trick and I’ve been obsessed with capturing it all my life. ‘Light Rhythms’ is an appreciation for illuminations that make things visible.
In this collection of paintings I explore the different effects of light on a landscape and the stories it creates.
