LIGHT IN THE LANDSCAPE is for artists in all mediums as the challenge of creating illumination in a painting has problems common to all. This workshop will focus on composition and painting technique and will emphasize the role that light plays in the construction and design of an image. It is very difficult to create a strong image without some forethought, however, this does not mean the process becomes conscious and boring. On the contrary, applied well, it will challenge our comfort zone in a very positive manner. Brent will show how important design becomes in the subtle effect of light through Powerpoint presentations of his work and that of master painters of light through history and modern day, and the unique devices and techniques that they used to depict light. Discussion is encouraged. Technique, the manipulation of paint, texture and visual effects along with inventiveness, are the building blocks of composition and lends to the emergence of our own personal mark-making and vision. Through his demos, Brent will share his process of creating light in his work and his technique of applying paint. There will be lots of time for students to paint with individual assistance from Brent followed by short, informative critiques.
This workshop includes demos, lectures, and critiques, as well as individual assistance.

This workshop will be held at the Art Society of Strathcona County, 590 Boradmoor Blvd, in the A.J. Ottewell Centre, Sherwood Park.
